WorkShopLive Review: A detailed look at the New Comer to Online Guitar Lessons

workshop live logoWhen I first heard about WorkShopLive I thought, are these guys crazy? Do we really need another learn to play guitar website out there? That was until I got to dig into their free lesson content and see what they really have to offer.

WorkshopLive really stands above other learn guitar membership websites for a couple of reasons.

  • They offer lessons in guitar, bass, drums, and piano (we’ll only be concentrating on the guitar lesson portion in this review)
  • They have over 50 qualified instructors on staff that cover lessons in rock, jazz, blues, and acoustic at all skill levels
  • The site was launched and developed by the founders of the Natural Guitar Workshop, DayJams, and National Guitar Workshop Publisher.

Now I’m not knocking what other online guitar lessons offer, there is some great quality out there. How ever none of them have the lesson content, or technology like WorkShopLive.

NOTE: There is a big benefit to taking online lessons. You get immediate access to the video and they’re available any where you have an Internet connection. I prefer using dvd lessons as they don’t require online connection and the program we recommend here is more then just a dvd. Find out more in our Learn and master guitar review, it’s the most complete guitar lesson course you can take at home.

Using WorkShopLive Guitar lessons.

The first thing you notice when you sign-up as a member of workshoplive is their custom multimedia player (it’s a small download you get after you join). This media shows you the video lesson you’re watching, as well as the notation and tab for that lesson at the same time.

There is quick access available for a tuner, metronome, and chord chart when ever you need it, and you can even slow down the parts of the lesson your learning to master it slower first before playing it at full speed.

I mean this is some pretty impressive stuff for an online guitar lesson site.

Each lesson is meant to cover the same amount of content as a 30 minute private lesson would with an offline guitar instructor. Most lessons are broken into 5-8 sections . You’re able to print off the material for each lesson to reference later or practice with.

The interface is slick, and while it might take a couple of minutes getting used to once you figure it out you’ll see why I’m so hyped about it.

What you Get with a WorkShopLive Membership

First off, WorkShopLive offers memberships monthly, quaterley, and annually. Of course the longer you prepay for up front the better deal you’re getting.

After signing up you gain access to the 1800+ lessons of content that are inside the members only area, along with the 50+ teachers.

On top of the lesson content you also gain access to song lessons to that will teach you some of the greatest tunes ever, including: Stairway to heaven, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and more.

There are no famous guitar players on the list of instructors at WorkShopLive but rest assured all of them are professionally trained, and this isn’t their first teaching gig. They’ve been doing this for a while and the quality of each lesson shows this.

Verdict on WorkShopLive

I don’t think there is anything bad I can say about WorkShopLive. It’s developed by music professionals, the lessons are taught by music professionals. It’s as good as having one-on-one lessons with a professional music teacher in your home town.

One thing I will say is that if you just want to learn to strum pop songs then the lesson content at WorkShopLive might be a little to in-depth for what you need.

How ever for everyone else wanting to get the most out of their instrument WorkShopLive is it!
