Rock Guitar Lessons Online

Rock guitar lessons encompass quite a broad range of material from power chords to pentatonic scales. It’s the style that most beginners graduate to after learning the basic open and barre chords as well as musical theory.

Personally I’ve been taking rock guitar lessons online. I’ve been watching lessons from two different websites: Jamplay.com and GuitarTricks.com. Both sites have been online for several years, have multiple teachers you can learn from and charge a monthly membership fee that costs less then most one hour private guitar lessons.

Let’s take a look.

Jamplay Rock Guitar Lessons

With Jamplay’s rock guitar lessons you’ll learn everything from dimished and suspended chords to how to improvise with all 5 positions of the pentatonic scale. These are the skills you need to go from being a beginner player to an intermediate and advanced guitarist who can play in a band setting, jam with other musicans and even begin to write some of your songs.

If you’re a beginner guitarist then you may want to start with the beginner electric guitar lessons available at Jamplay. If you already have the basics covered then the rock specific genre lessons are probably more up your alley.

Jamplay’s rock guitar lessons take advantage of some great multimedia affects including: on screen graphics, multiple angle camera shots and split screen layouts so you can see what the instructor is doing with their left and right hands at all times.

I personally find that the lesson catalog at Jamplay is updated more frequently then Guitar Tricks so I tend to spend more time on their site.

Guitar Tricks Rock Guitar Lessons

Guitar Tricks has a ton of lesson content online for both beginner electric guitarists and rock specific lessons.

They have more then 10 different instructors who are providing lesson content for their rock guitar lessons, with the bulk of the content being from Christopher Schlegel who’s been an instructor with Guitar Tricks since 2005.

So why would you want to take rock guitar lessons from Guitar Tricks rather then Jamplay? Well truthfully I prefer Jamplay. I find their lesson videos use more multimedia (one screen graphics, multiple angles, split screens) and are being updated more frequently. However Jamplay is also more expensive then Guitar Tricks.

Guitar Tricks lesson content is solid, but some of it was recorded a few years ago so they weren’t able to take advantage of some of the great multimedia stuff that is available now.
