Top 2 Online Guitar Lessons Websites for 2011
Learning to play the guitar has come a long way from buying a book at your local music store. Still the best method to learn to play guitar is through private lessons but inexpensive online guitar lessons are a close second.
Where private guitar lessons may cost you $80-$100 a month for 75% less you can have a complete months access to some of the best online guitar lessons available.
GuitarLessonsReviewed.com was created by me, an intermediate guitar player to help you choose the best online guitar lessons site to learn at home.
Below are my top 2 rated online guitar lessons websites. When rating these sites I considered the quality and variety of instruction, topics offered, additional materials besides video lessons and over all value.
#1 JamPlay.com

JamPlay might be the new kid on the street when it comes to online guitar lesson (they’re about 4 years old) but they’re providing new content literally everyday to their students.
With a monthly subscription to JamPlay ($19.95) you have access to over 400 hours of lessons, 30+ different instructors, daily webcam sessions and a huge library of bonus materials. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or expert player there’s something for all skill levels inside JamPlay. Their lesson catalog is easy to navigate as it’s divided up into 3 different sections.
You can choose the lessons that suit your current skill level and progress to more advanced lessons as you learn more. There is a very active online support forum inside the membership where other students and teachers hang out each day. If you have a question about something related to guitar this is the place to have it answered. JamPlay is $5 more per month then our runner up site, but I feel that all of the content they offer beyond lessons more then justifies the higher monthly price. |

#2 GuitarTricks
|
Guitar Tricks is the pioneer of online guitar lessons. They’ve been doing this for 12 years and it doesn’t look like they’re stopping anytime soon. Creator Jon Broderick is very active in his local music scene and is a product of his own website (Jon created Guitartricks after becoming frustrated with low quality alternatives online).
Like JamPlay, GuitarTricks has over 3000 lessons in their catalog by over 30 different teachers. Lessons are divided into different topics from beginner, intermediate, rock, blues, Jazz etc. You can start off learning at your current level and advanced through other lessons as you learn more. Where GuitarTricks falls down a little is in their video quality and bonus materials. One draw back to being an older site is that some of your videos were shot before HD equipment became affordable. Also GuitarTricks doens’t have the same offering of bonus practice mateirals or daily live webcam lessons being offered. Support is still there with a large support forum where teachers and students hang out, and the monthly price point of GutiarTricks is $5 bucks cheaper then JamPlay. |
My Conclusions
If you’re a beginner and you’re not sure how advanced you’re going to want to take your guitar playing then eithe r of these websites will work. I think GuitarTricks might even be a better choice since their beginner content is very straight forward and you probably won’t use all of the additional tools and features JamPlay has to offer.
With that being said if you are currently an intermediate guitar player or are interested in learning specific styles and becoming and advanced player then JamPlay is better choice. Sure it’s $5 more a month but you’ll get your $5 worth of value in the first couple of days.
