Online Guitar Lesson Review – JamPlay in review

There are several online guitar lesson websites to choose from, how ever only a couple are really worth considering when it gets right down to it. Our favorite is JamPlay.com, they offer the easiest method of learning only what you need to know, and will have you playing songs the fastest.

JamPlay Online Guitar Lesson Review

jamplay screen imageThe two biggest benefits I saw to JamPlay was their variety of teachers, and the variety of techniques and styles they teach. Their online guitar lessons aren’t trying to provide one lesson plan that fits everyone. Instead they’re trying to provide an array of lessons that many people could be interested in. (example specific acoustic, electric, blues, metal, and jazz lessons).

Their guitar lesson videos are top quality, and each one is recorded in HD. If you have a slower Internet connection then it might take a bit to load them. They aren’t downloaded to your computer, rather they’re watched right on the JamPlay website. My assumption is this ensures their videos don’t end up on you tube or other video sharing websites.

Skill Levels

JamPlay is constantly updating their video library. They already have over 6000 minutes of lessons online, but that’s growing all the time. The lessons are divided up across their 14 teachers, and several styles of music. There’s enough content in there for any beginner to spend the better part of a year learning and practicing.

I’d suggest that JamPlay is perfect for any beginner, and would have some good content for intermediate guitar players. How ever if you have been playing for a while don’t expect that all 60 hours worth of lessons will be useful to you. A lot of the beginner content you’ll already know.

Here’s the Breakdown of their Lessons

Lessons Plans

The JamPlay uses a 3 phase structure for you to learn from starting with,

Phase 1: Beginner lessons
Phase 2: Genre Teaching (specific styles)
Phase 3: Specific song lessons

Their structure is nice because you’re able to pick and choose what parts you want to spend time on. It’s advised that all beginners go through the beginner lesson videos, but you can skip over some of the genre lessons if you’re not interested.

The Verdict

The videos are top notch from qualified instructors. It’s easy to learn individual aspects of guitar rather then having to start from the very beginner basics, and working your way through. For someone who wants to get up to speed quickly and start playing songs JamPlay is your best alternative.
