Metal Guitar Lessons Online
Learning to play Metal guitar isn’t something that a lot of people think to do online, but I’ve found two great places that have some awesome metal guitar lessons.
Jamplay.com is definitely the leader in heavy metal guitar lessons online, while competitor Guitar Tricks has some Metal guitar content, the instructors they have teaching their videos aren’t what I’d call “metal material”.
Jamplay Metal Guitar Lessons
At Jamplay you’ll learn metal guitar from Dennis Hodges who is a metal player through and through, but he knows his stuff. You can actually watch a sample lesson from his metal guitar lesson series on JamPlay by clicking here.
Other instructors on the metal teaching team at Jamplay are: Kris Norris of the band Darkest Hour, Emil Werstler of the band DAATH, and James Malone of the band Arsis. They’ve got a fantastic line up of not just instructors who know a bit about playing metal, but rather of instructors who play metal guitar for a living in their own bands.

Guitar Tricks Metal Guitar Lessons
Guitar Tricks does offer some Metal guitar lesson content, however they don’t have the high profile instructors that Jamplay has to offer. Of course each one site is going to have it’s strong points, for example Guitar Tricks offers far better country guitar lessons content then Jamplay.
The basics of metal guitar are covered at Guitar Tricks such as power chords, metal rhythm playing and some basic shredding licks, but they’re missing the more advanced techniques that are covered at Jamplay.
Guitar Tricks does have a 14 Day Trial account you can sign-up for if you’d like to see everything they have available, however I think for heavy metal guitar lessons I’d go for Jamplay.
