Whether you’re looking to learn the blues or learn your first chords there’s a guitar lessons dvd that can help you do it from home and for a lot less money then what beginner guitar lessons would cost from a private instructor.
I personally own and use the majority of the guitar lesson dvd and onlin?e courses I discuss and recommend here at GuitarLessonsReviewed.com. I’ve used many of the lessons offered from courses such as Gibson’s Learn and Master Guitar and JamPlay.com to take myself from a beginner to an intermediate guitar player, and that’s why I believe I can help you choose the best guitar lesson dvd.

#1 Gibson’s Learn and Master Guitar Review
There are three things you should look for in a guitar lesson dvd: quality instruction, in-depth lesson plan and great practice tools. Gibson’s Learn & Master Guitar covers all three of these and goes beyond.
The 20 lesson DVDs included cover topics such as musical theory, scales and advanced chords as well as playing styles like blues, jazz and rock. No other guitar lessons dvd I’ve used or reviewed covers as many styles.
For practicing Learn and Master Guitar comes with 10 CDs full of backing tracks. If you’ve ever used backing tracks before then you know how great they are. A Backing track is basically a full band playing a song without the guitar part. You then add in the guitar part by playing along with the song for practice. It makes practicing a lot more fun then plain old repetition, and also prepares you for playing with other musicians as you improve.
There is of course the need to do a bit of repetition learning with this course as well (theory, scales etc.). This is where the 100 page lesson book comes in. The lesson book includes an overview of all areas covered in the DVDs and provides easy access to review and practice exercises needed to master each section of the course.
Finally, course instructor Steve Krenz is a performing, recording and guitar teaching veteran. He’s been involved in the music industry for more then 20 years and dedicates time each and every day to visiting the support and community website where students of the course can come to ask questions, get feedback and just chat about their progress.
If you’re a beginner or intermediate guitarist there is no better guitar dvd course available with as much content, supplementary materials and support as Learn & Master Guitar.

#2 JamPlay Review
Following the same criteria as we did for Gibson’s Learn & Master Guitar (instruction quality, lesson plans and practice materials) JamPlay is our #2 rated guitar course.
While JamPlay is not a guitar lessons dvd (it’s an online guitar course) the quality of instruction from their 40+ guitar teachers is nothing to sneeze at.
JamPlay offers lessons for just about every style you can think of. Starting with beginner acoustic and electric guitar lessons then moving on to intermediate topics like the blues, rock, metal, jazz and even classical guitar.
All of their videos are recorded using High Definition equipment using multiple angles to ensure you get a close of look at exactly what the instructor is doing (See screen shot at right). You can watch some of their free lessons here.
Something that JamPlay offers that a guitar lesson dvd generally does not is specific song lessons. You can learn to play full songs by some of your favorite artists including Jimi Hendrix, Goo Goo Dolls, John Mayer and even Pearl Jam.
Lesson plans for all styles and skill levels are very straight forward. You choose the skill level you’re currently at, then you choose the instructor you want to learn from. Each instructor will have have a specific lesson set (Varying from 10-50 lessons) for that skill level and style.
For support and practice, JamPlay has a slew of tools including backing tracks, scale and chord libraries as well as a huge support forum where members and instructors hang out. There you can ask questions, get answers and even make some new friends.
I feel JamPlay offers similar quality of content to other guitar dvds for a lower upfront cost. While not everyone wants to watch videos on their computer and would prefer a DVD JamPlay definitely offers the best online guitar lessons.

#3 Beginner Guitar System Review
The Beginner Guitar System (BGS) is a more basic course then Learn & Master Guitar or JamPlay.com but it is a guitar lesson dvd rather then online videos.
Ideally you should be a brand new guitarist to get the most from BGS. Course instructor Nate Savage does an excellent job explaining the basics of chords, theory and scales. However there isn’t the in-depth intermediate lessons included with BGS as there is with Learn & Master Guitar.
The videos are shot using HD video equipment and they also use multiple angle shots to ensure you get a clear view of exactly what is being taught.
There’s a nice coil bound lesson book that provides exercises and review for practicing. Also there are backing tracks included in the form of videos and audio. So you have the choice of jamming a long with a DVD video on your computer or TV. Or you can pop in one of the CDs and play it through your home stereo.
If you’re expectations on the guitar are to learn a few chords and songs quickly then the Beginner Guitar System will do that for you. While it doesn’t have the more intermediate and style specific lessons of some other learn to play guitar dvds it serves a purpose and is less expensive then other courses available.
