Introduction to playing Power Chords on the Guitar

We have teamed up with our friend Nate Savage of the Beginner Guitar System to bring you a series of guitar chord lesson that will help you get started fast.

Power chords are some of the easiest chords to play on the guitar and they’re also the funnest.

Most popular rock N roll tunes are made up of power chords so once you understand the basics of them you open the door to learning a lot of new songs.

The Basics of Power Chords

Power chords are generally played on two or three strings and require usually only two fingers. For beginners this is often far easier to play then bar chords which require a lot of strength in your fretting hand.

As you can see from the video above most power chords are smaller variations of other major chords yet when played on the electric guitar they sound fantastic.

Watch the power chords lesson video above and take a stab at the song lesson that’s included in the video. This will be good practice for playing power chords and changing between them.
