7 Essential Guitar Chords for Beginners

We have teamed up with our friend Nate Savage of the Beginner Guitar System to bring you a series of guitar chord lesson that will help you get started fast.

Getting started with guitar chords is the first step towards learning to play a song on the guitar. Most of us learning guitar are doing so because we eventually want to be able to play a song we know and love.

These guitar chords for beginners are the 1st stepping stone to mastering all of the major and minor open chords.

What’s an open chord? Simple it’s a chord at the first fret and nut which requires you to play at least one open string while your strum.

The above video explains the basics of these guitar chords for beginners. A couple of things to keep in mind while your practicing are:

1.) Always use the tips of your fingers, this will ensure you aren’t hitting any other string besides the string you mean to.

2.) Keep your thumb square at the back of the guitar neck. This helps in only using the tips of your fingers to press on the frets.

3.) Take your time! Don’t expect to be able to play all these beginner guitar chords over night. Often times beginners expect things to happen quicker then they should and this can cause frustration.
