Beginner Lesson: Introduction to Guitar Bar Chords
We have teamed up with our friend Nate Savage of the Beginner Guitar System to bring you a series of beginner guitar lesson that will help you get started fast.
This will likely be the hardest beginner guitar lesson you’ve done yet. Bar chords require a lot of strength in your fretting hand, specifically your index finger as you “bar” it across all six strings.
Do the practice exercise in the video two or three times each (doing it to long at once will make your finger very sore) until you feel that you’re getting a nice clean sound.
Guitar bar chords offer an entirely new dynamic to your playing. You can now play all of your open chords all over the neck in different position.
You’ll learn quickly that you use the same basic shapes you learned in the beginner guitar chords lesson to make bar chords all over the neck. Specifically you should start with the E major, E minor, A major and A minor shapes from the open position.
If these chord names aren’t make sense then you should go back and check out the guitar chords for beginners lesson.
Don’t get frustrated while you’re trying to learn barre chords. Like I said this is the hardest part of learning guitar you’ve encountered so far. So take your time, practice each day and you’ll notice slowly but surely you’ll be able to play clean sounding barre chords and your fingers won’t be hurting as much as they did in the beginning.
