Beginner Lesson: Seven Different Beginner Guitar Chords

We have teamed up with our friend Nate Savage of the Beginner Guitar System to bring you a series of beginner guitar lesson that will help you get started fast.

There are a lot of different chords on the guitar you’re going to learn as you progress as a guitar player. This beginner chords lesson will introduce you to seven beginner guitar chords that will get you started playing a whole bunch of different songs.

Watch this lesson a couple of times through on it’s own, then go grab your own guitar and watch it again. What you’ll want to do is:

1.) Ensure you have the correct finger positions for these chords and you’re using the tips of your fingers like is shown in the video
2.) Practice strumming the chords on their own
3.) Practice changing from one chord shape to the next without strumming
4.) Practice strumming while changing chords, if you mess up while changing just keep on going it will become more natural as you practice

The seven chords you’re going to learn are:

• C major
• D major
• E major
• G major
• A major
• E minor
• A minor

These chords are frequently used in my popular songs and rock songs.

All of these chords are in what’s known as the 1st position (or right at the first fret next to the nut) and each chord has at least one open string (you won’t be pressing a fret down on that string).

Pay close attention as you’re practicing that you’re using the tips of your fingers. It’s important that you learn these chords right the first time to avoid gaps in your learning later on.
